Film Poster Analysis

The main meaning behind the poster for ‘avengers infinity war’ is the sense of danger. This is shown through the red glow around all the characters which connotes that things aren’t going to go to plan and that something bad will happen. Thanos being at the top of the poster shows that he causes the danger and holds the most power over everyone and doesn’t have as much of a red glow around him suggesting that he is never in danger throughout the movie. The characters in the background peering from behind the ring, which looks like a portal, shows that they may not have as much significance in the storyline to be up front but still enough importance to where they are on the poster and ready to fight. As you look from the bottom to the top of the poster, the characters get bigger which connotes that the characters at the top of the poster have more significance in the storyline of this movie and that they play a bigger role in facing evil which is Thanos at the top of the poster who is the biggest character which already tells us that he will potentially win the battle against good.

The title at the bottom of the poster has a flame pattern on it which connotes chaos and destruction and shows that this movie may not have a happy ending. The ‘Infinity war’ text is smaller than the ‘Avengers’ text which shows that it’s telling us what it is but maybe doesn’t have as much significance as ‘Avengers’ and is more of a reference to what is going to happen instead of having an important role in the movie. The people who made the movie have their names on the top and the bottom of the poster. The people at the top have their names in a bright yellow, whereas the people on the bottom have their names in a dark grey which connotes good against evil and that evil overthrows the good in this movie as there are more names in dark grey than there are in yellow.

The hill at the bottom of the poster is black with the avengers standing on top which connotes that the Avengers have already defeated a lot of evil and have great power already, but Thanos is the final battle which is more of a challenge as he has an unphased look on his face contrasting the intense focus on all the Avengers’ faces. It also connotes that it is the base of the problem as it is the platform that everything stands on including the characters and the portal in the background. The portal takes up most of the frame which shows its significance, but it also connotes that it is root of evil and where it all comes from: the lit portal is red and yellow which signifies danger and destruction, and the gold frame suggests empowerment of evil and suggests that it is the leader in the battle.
